Research Compliance

UW Oshkosh is dedicated to advancing a culture of ethics, integrity and compliance that is consistent with federal regulations, state laws, UW system and institutional policies.  The Office of Sponsored Programs and Faculty Development is responsible for oversight, policy and procedure development, training, monitoring, and administration of the following research compliance areas:

  • Human subjects research
  • Animal use for research or teaching
  • Research or teaching activities involving recombinant DNA and biological materials
  • Responsible conduct in research
  • Financial conflicts of interest
PI Eligibility Status
The eligibility status for Principal Investigator (PI) for all research activities at UW Oshkosh has been updated to be congruent with Principal Investigator status for related grant work. Current PIs who are no longer eligible for PI status under this new policy will be grandfathered in until their project is completed. This policy will go into effect on July 1, 2016.

A.    To qualify as a Principal Investigator (PI) at UW Oshkosh for projects involving human participants, animals used for teaching or research, and projects involving recombinant DNA, synthetic nucleic acid molecules, or biologically hazardous materials, individuals must meet the following requirements:

  1.   Faculty member of any rank (includes Tenured, Tenure Track,  Adjunct and Emeritus Faculty)
  2.    Academic Staff members
  3.    Visiting faculty/scientist faculty during the time that they draw salary support for the performance of a sponsored project through the University

B.     The following individuals, in addition to individuals listed in category A above may be eligible to serve as a Co-Principal Investigator with an individual that meets the requirement for a PI on a project:

  1.  Post-doctoral students
  2.  University Staff determined to be qualified by UW Oshkosh research oversight committees to conduct activities indicated in protocol. Necessary qualifications are provided in committee procedures manuals.
  3. Collaborating faculty/scientist who has provided letter of support from their Institution

C.     The following individuals may serve as research personnel on UW Oshkosh projects, in addition to individuals listed in categories A & B above:

  1. Undergraduate and graduate students
  2. Volunteers not affiliated with UW Oshkosh who have completed a Volunteer Agreement Form
